Where’s Barbara Selling Cars?

I am back where it all began…Volvo of Wellesley Banner_resized_resized

Why? First and foremost, I am convinced that Volvo is the safest car made. Also, the technology is so far advanced compared to other models.

Truth be told, the commute is 10 minutes instead of 45-60 minutes.

I felt like Dorothy, from the Wizard of OZ. I had to go over the rainbow to realize there’s no place like home.  (If I had ruby shoes, I would have clicked my heels).

I’ve been back in Wellesley for a little over a week and have sold five cars.

The Car Sales Woman – It’s Your Time

The title of this blog made me smile.

How often do you run into a car sales woman? Not too often it’s sad to say.

The field of selling cars for a living has been dominated by men since the beginning of car sales and it’s time for a change. I know many women in the business and they make great car saleswomen, F & I Managers, Sales Managers and yes, even General Managers. Maybe it’s the stigma that goes along with being a car salesman the holds back some women from entering a career in car sales or maybe it’s common misconception that men make better car sales people. Whatever it is it’s time to cast aside those old beliefs from the past and get some women selling cars and other automobile sales careers.   Read more at: http://carsalesprofessional.com/the-car-sales-woman-time/

Status Update – Six Months

I now have six months under my belt as a Car Sales Consultant.

Since I like to laugh and to make others laugh, I’ll share some of the more humorous moments to date. My feeling is you have to be able to laugh at yourself. Intrigued yet?

Getting Out of the Car

It must have been my first test drive that went fairly well, until we arrived back at the dealership. A very nice couple were in the front seats. Yes, they liked the car and let’s go in and talk numbers. Not so fast. I can’t believe I am going to admit this but, gotta laugh at your self right? The couple get out of the car, but I can’t. I’m in the back seat and I can’t open the doors. I’m trying anything I could think of, the driver is pushing any button to unlock the doors. At this point, I think, I can not let these people go into the dealership to say their Sales Consultant couldn’t get out of the car. I was frustrated and laughing, (to myself) at that thought. Luckily, the driver found the child safety lock!

The Test Drives

One of my fears of selling cars has always been the test drive.  Really, there are many things that could happen. Again, on one of my earlier test drives, the couple decided they loved the car, but wanted a different color. No problem, I used my cell phone to call the sales manager to see what other colors we had. WRONG! I learned a call to the dealership while on a test drive meant something went wrong, like a flat tire, ran out of gas.  I’ve never done that again.

A real fear of the test drives are crazy drivers, or at least crazy while on a test drive. Some people feel they need to test the steering by wobbling all over the road, taking turns ridiculously fast or stopping fast. These have all happened. There was only one time I involuntarily let out an audible OMG!  I deal with these memorable rides by telling myself, “It’s OK Barbara, you’re in a Volvo.”  Seriously, not a sales line, until I use it as one.

Basically, the state of the car selling business is good. Granted I can have a great month with 13 cars out the door and only 5 the next. Either that’s just the way it is in the car business or it’s me. By my next update, I will, I need to have at least 11 cars consistently.

Stay tuned for the next update. Did she make her goal?

Loaded with Safety Features

Volvo S80

Volvo S80

  • MSRP:$39,900
  • Safety rating:2014 top safety pick +
  • Estimated mpg:
    • City – 19
    • Highway – 29

There’s a reason Volvo is known for its safety. After all, this luxury large sedan has garnered the top rating from IIHS since 2007, and that didn’t change in 2014. Another top safety pick, the Volvo S80 performed well in all crash tests and also got the highest rating for rear crash protection and head restraints.

In addition to holding its own in crashes, the Volvo S80 offers a host of safety features — some standard and others that can be added to help avoid accidents.

Included are active high beams, which recognize the headlight beam of oncoming vehicles and automatically shifts between high and low beams; an adaptive brake light that can tell the difference between panic and normal braking; and collision warning and lane-departure warning.

The Volvo also offers safety technology, which is designed to prevent accidents at low speeds by applying the brakes automatically if a crash is imminent. Pedestrians don’t have to worry about getting hit, thanks to the pedestrian detection with full auto braking.
