Rumors

Rumor has it, Volvo will be out of business.

A recent example comes from the Huffington Post, 9 Iconic Brands That Could Soon Be Dead. Ironically, just two days before that article appeared a very favorable article from the Huffington Post, Car Review: Not to Be Outdone, the 2014 Volvo S60 Offers Safety First.

I believe Volvo will be around for a long time. Granted the brand has a bit of catching up to do. Based on what I have personally heard and seen from the proverbial horses mouth, the future looks to be very exciting. The next generation on all Volvo products will be the 2016 model year expected to arrive at dealerships sometime in 2015.

“Creativity is thriving in the Swedish society. This includes design and technology as well as the fashion, music and art scene.

We use this as an inspiration for creating a new kind of attainable luxury. Our future cars will show that there are new, exciting ways to express the soul of Sweden.”

“In my opinion, Volvo design has always had a certain authority. We aim to extend this calm, intelligent and strong side of our brand with a greater potency, modernity and expressiveness. Concept Coupé clearly expresses this direction.”

Volvo S80

Volvo S80

  • MSRP:$39,900
  • Safety rating:2014 top safety pick +
  • Estimated mpg:
    • City – 19
    • Highway – 29

There’s a reason Volvo is known for its safety. After all, this luxury large sedan has garnered the top rating from IIHS since 2007, and that didn’t change in 2014. Another top safety pick, the Volvo S80 performed well in all crash tests and also got the highest rating for rear crash protection and head restraints.

In addition to holding its own in crashes, the Volvo S80 offers a host of safety features — some standard and others that can be added to help avoid accidents.

Included are active high beams, which recognize the headlight beam of oncoming vehicles and automatically shifts between high and low beams; an adaptive brake light that can tell the difference between panic and normal braking; and collision warning and lane-departure warning.

The Volvo also offers safety technology, which is designed to prevent accidents at low speeds by applying the brakes automatically if a crash is imminent. Pedestrians don’t have to worry about getting hit, thanks to the pedestrian detection with full auto braking.
